Lisa at Home
Live teacher support would probably be a great thing. We have been using Apologia for two years, and it is the bane of our existence. :o( For the longest time I thought that math and science simply were not my dd's forte, but that all changed when we switched to Chalk Dust for math- she loves it and is doing quite well. If there is nothing comparable to CD for science, does anyone with Apologia experience have a recommendation for a program that is bears no similarity to it? Thank you, ~Lisa
Michelle in MO
If you mean you are looking for a program that has a DVD component, you might look into BJU's science. It's highly rated by many people here (although I haven't used it, personally), but it does at least have a DVD component which could help explain the concepts. Susan C.
BTDT, started with Apologia, went to BJU, then quickly back to Apologia. BJU took a lot of administrative time, had too many books, sheets, manuals, TE for all of them. It was designed for a classroom and Apologia is designed for home study. Both have plusses and minuses, but for us, Apologia wins out. I have heard good things about BJU Biology and Chemistry if you can stand the extra administrative work and the annoyance of watching a several year old online class. My daughter is taking classes on virtualhomeschoolgroup.com The online classes are free, and they are teaching biology, chemistry, and physics.
