Quiver0f10
I am looking at using the Barton's reading program mentioned in the other post and it says a typical lesson in 45 min to 1 hour. I am wondering what else I would need to use with my 8 yo to = a language arts program. Once he moves up in the levels he will be reading some and spelling, so for now would I just add in penmanship? What about other subjects? I plan on continuing math, but what about history, science and grammar? Should I just read some living books and not worry @ a formal program for these subjects with him right now? Would you mind sharing what your child's day looks like? Thanks! Stacy in NJ
I would do grammar via FLL or FLL3 and handwriting with HWOT and/or simple copywork. I would have him listen in on older sibs history and science if doable, but not worry overly much about it. Yes, a living books approach sounds right. Don't forget audio books from the library. I would add in some extra easy workbook type stuff, just for extra writing and math practice and to keep him busy: maybe ETC, MCP phonics A and some Kumon books. FYI, I had an 8 yo non-reader 3 years ago.
