TXMary2
What would you suggest for Grammar for 9th grade, for a kid that detests grammar? We have previously used BJU which became very intense for us. Currently we use Keys to Good Language and we love it. I would like something that gives an adequate amount of instruction and isn't overwhelming.
Love2Smile
Well we are using Abeka this year, it may be our last for grammar. I don't think a highschooler needs it for all 4 years... I'm not going to have her do every single thing in the book tho
Melissa in Australia
we have switched from rod and staff, to Abeka. we find the workbook style good. it is a good review of previously learned concepts. we ate only doing 1 page per day, we will easily get through the book in one year this way. Sunshine State Sue
Analytical Grammar is great because it is clear and concise. It's even recommended in TWTM for 9th/10th, I believe.
Rhea
What about MCTLA? I have Magic Lens Vol. 1 here and I just love how the author explains things. (And then I get SO frustrated when I try to explain to someone why I'm so impressed with it. Does "It's beautiful," count?) My 9th grader did Rod & Staff for three years, then part of Analytical Grammar last year. I think she's going to love MCTLA. I got the whole set for her. Some of what's in Magic Lens she has seen before, but never has it been explained like this. Click on links on this page to learn more and find samples (thought I don't think the samples do it justice): http://www.rfwp.com/mct.php I hope you find a good match for your student! Amy in CO
We just started using Analytical Grammar for my 9th grader. I had planned to do it over two years with her, but she wants to do it in one to get it over with. Granted, we have only been doing it for 2 weeks, but so far she likes. And she has hated or barely tolerated our other grammar programs.
