elegantlion
I'm hoping to tackle this classic for myself within the next year. I'll be using the Roger L. Green version for ds this year. I'm also going to work through Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and The Once & Future King beforehand. I have looked at all of the publishers available at Amazon and I'm not sure which would be better. This Penguin edition (2 vols) edited by Janet Cowen seems to have some good reviews. This Norton Critical Edition sounds good as well. Or is there another version I am missing that would be more promising?
Michelle in AL
I can't answer your question about Le Morte, but I love the other 2 books. My favorite parts of The Once and Future King are the lessons from the animals and the types of government they represent. Also watch for the owls throughout the book: what they represent, their appearance etc. I didn't catch that until the end, but it was kind of neat. I love the humor in this book as well, especially the intro with Sir Ector's hopes for a " good eddication" for Wart. The beheading game was quite shocking in Sir Gawain. Apparently there's some historical basis to this, but I'm not quite sure what it is. You have to get past the long, lengthy description of the banquet at the beginning, then it's all excitement from there. Enjoy!
MamaT
We have the Norton edition. I believe type in the Penguin edition is much smaller.
Tony'sMom
We read The Once and Future King our sophomore year in high school. It is a wonderful book. It was the book that our teacher used to teach us "how to read". She was also the teacher that taught us how to take a test. Thank you Mrs. LaMere.
