schoendb
I will be using Gileskirk Modernity lectures this year for my 9th grader. I'm afraid that Modern Times by Johnson might be too difficult of reading for her; did anyone use a different spine than this and how did it go? Thanks, Erika

Kareni
Hello Erika, I have no firsthand experience with Modern Times; however, here are some older threads that might prove helpful. Twentieth-century world history text? 15yo 20th century study, help me choose 20th century history. Sonlight? Teaching Company? 20th Century World History and Options for textbook on Modern History?? schoendb
I found a book that may work for us as a spine in one of the threads you posted, Kareni....The Idiot's Guide to 20th Century History--I don't like the name, but the book itself, I learned, is recommended as a modern history spine for TOG dialectic stage. It looks like it could be a good fit for my daughter. Lisa J.--Thank you for your feedback...I have another question for you, if you don't mind. I've heard good things about Human Odyssey and have definitely heard of Western Civ., but I haven't seen either in person. Did you choose Western Civ. because you thought it went better with the lectures than H.O.? Or was there something else about it that made you choose it over H.O.? Thanks again to both of you! The Novice's Guide to ... would sound so much more appealing!) Regards, Kareni
