lauriej
Hi knowledge parents, I need to run my plan by some folks who have know more about these things than I. My goal is to try to rack up as much college credit for the kids as possible before college in order to save money. We have access to free dual-credit courses at the community college and plan to CLEP some other classes. The problem I am having is that my oldest doesn't know what she wants to major in or where she wants to go to college, so I can't really find out in advance which classes to focus on. Also, I am not familiar with the AP exams and am wondering if they are worth as much credit as the CC classes and CLEP exams. It seems that APs aren't as widely accepted for credit. Can anyone give me some tips for how to plan out our schedule for the next four years in order to hit the most common undergrad prerequisites? Incidently, I would like for my kids to be able to earn the first two years of college credit in high school so that they can work in the field(s) that interest them for two years before they start college. That way, they will have a better idea of what they really want to do and can save some cash for school. They will also be right on track with their peers that way, being juniors at the age of 20- only they will have real world experience and hopefully more maturity before they enter the college world. Thanks for any suggestions, Laurie

You've asked some questions that have been discussed frequently on this board regarding dual enrollment/AP, etc. so you might want to you the search function to find old posts. One impression that you have which I believe is incorrect concerns AP and CLEP. I believe that good scores on AP exams are more widely accepted than CLEP exams. Of course, the usual mantra around here is "Check with the college". Good luck, Jane
Laurie4b
Whether or not AP, cc, or CLEP is worth credit depends on which university you are applying to. Check out some of the ones that your dc may be interested in and plan from there.
