Recommended Posts

I have already posted this before, but want more feedback...To ANYONE's whose children did well on the SAT2 (over 700?) will you pretty please share....

Which exams did you use??

Which High School courses did your child do before prepping and which prep books did you use?

In what grade did you begin to do subject tests, what materials did you use prior to the tests and how did your child do??

We are preparing now for these courses and I need all the info I can get...see my other posts <GRIN!!!>>

I'm especially interested in physics.......

As far as our own experience, my daughter took the US Hist. subj. test, just after finishing AP US Hist. w/Penn. Homeschoolers online this past year (instructor, Susan Richman), and taking that AP exam.

Did very well.

Thanks,

Jo

Hello!

My older ds took the SAT 2 Chemistry test at the end of hos 10th grade year after completing all of Apologia chemistry and most of Apologia advanced chemistry. A couple of months before the test, we dropped the text book and ds practiced and prepared for the test by using the Kaplan test prep book. He scored quite well, in my opinion - 730. When doing practice tests, be sure to mimic test conditions: no breaks, etc. ds read all the sections of the study book, which sometines presented things in a different way from his text - good to get different presentations, imo. We were not interested in going the AP route, so I don't know how he would have done on that test, but the SAT 2 worked out fine for him. As always, test taking strategy is important - don't get bogged down spending too much time on any one problem, think logically about answer possibilities, etc.

Hope this helps!

Blessings,

April

Exams taken after doing "outsourced" classes -- (for texts, see the website for the classes; they haven't changed yet)

Physics -- taken after doing AP physics B through Scholars Online

Latin -- taken after doing AP Latin Vergil through Scholars Online

Chemistry -- taken after doing chemistry through Scholars Online (dd1) and after AP chemistry through Pennsylvania Homeschoolers (ds1)

American history -- taken after doing APUSH through PAH (dd)

English lit -- taken after doing English lit and American lit through Scholars Online and WHILE doing AP English Lit through PAH

Exams taken after doing coursework at home --

Math level I -- taken after working through Dolciani algebra 1 & 2 and Brown, Jurgensen, & Brown's Geometry

American history -- taken after working through Clarence Carson's A Basic History of the United States (ds1)

The only exam that either kid felt unprepared for was the Latin one, and despite the fact that she got a 5 on the AP Latin exam she did get by far her lowest SAT2 score on that exam (still over 700).

We didn't do the SAT2 Math level 2 exam because my kids aced the level 1 exam and they both had 2 semesters of college calculus on their transcript. I am going to have both my younger kids take the level 2 exam either instead of or in addition to level 1.
