dopeyfav Posted July 13, 2009 Share Posted July 13, 2009 I have heard wonderful success stories from parents that have used this writing curriculum and would like to try it. My ds is going into 9th grade and we already have a very full schedule and it seems to be quite time consuming. Can the IEW C take the place of a high school english class? How would it be listed on their transcript? I understand some use the program for 2 years; how would credit be issued for that scenario & how would it be listed on a transcript? Sumiller Posted July 13, 2009 Share Posted July 13, 2009 Rhonda, The IEW SWI C would not be enough to qualify for a full English credit since it is only the writing component. My ds just finished 9th grade and for his English credit he combined IEW SICC-C with Analytical Grammar plus Teaching the Classics literature analysis. I also know that the SWI is only about a semester's worth of work so I'm not sure how you would stretch it out to two years. I think you may be confused with the SICC (Student Intensive Continuation courses) which are a full year's work and could be split into two years. Now, if you want to stretch out the SWI to a full year and do a lesson every other week that would work but you would still need to add the other components to get the English credit. Chris in PA Posted July 13, 2009 Share Posted July 13, 2009 Rhonda, I am getting ready to start SWIC with my 11th grade dd. We will be doing SWIC the first semester and the Elegant Essay the second semester. I am also adding in grammar (either Rod and Staff or the Blue Book of Grammar), and literature (using Abeka World Lit and having her read several classics. This will all count as her "English credit". I will list it on her transcript as English 11. I also keep a summary of each high school course she does in case a college would ever question what encompassed her English courses. My 9th grade dd will also do the SWIC but only for the non-fiction writing parts of it. She is an amazing fiction writer. FloridaLisa Posted July 13, 2009 Share Posted July 13, 2009 My oldest 3 dc actually went through SWI-C intensively -- in about 2 weeks. It was the first 2 weeks of August before we had really started much other schoolwork. The DVDs are presented as a seminar, and we had to finish it as my dc were going to start with the Continuation Course in co-op that year. They completed the CC the first semester and then went on to some Shakespeare work the next semester. I mention our experience because you may be able to do a large chunk as a *summer seminar* and then roll it into your other studies throughout the year.
