imeverywoman
Does anyone have a preference of the older or newer versions of Spielvogel? (We will be working through the Western Civ. component with Omnibus.) Getting ready to order... :) Thanks, y'all! Susan C.
I am wanting to know this too, for Human Odyssey. I saw used editions on Amazon for as little as $2. Would you be ok with just the text, or do you need a teacher's edition, workbook, or other? And how would you match them up? If that is impossible, I may just buy the text to use as reference (but I know it will drive me nuts to not have answers to text questions). AnitaMcC
I got the Duiker/Spielvogel World History (two volume set) 5th edition. I like what I see so far.

I generally go with cheaper versions if they aren't too old. I usually get the version one older than latest. I guess I look at it this way... if it was good enough text before the latest... then it is still a good text. Besides, most schools (even colleges) don't go and buy the latest version just because it is there. So far I haven't bought any teacher editions for any subjects. I am looking for math TE but not willing to play nearly $100 for them. So I will wing it. I generally buy the student text and workbooks, study guides. I figure I can go to the publisher's website.... many of them offer free access to some of their web resources. For the World History... we can do the quizes on line. Hi Anita, Are there answer keys for the workbooks/study guides? Can you give information about the online quizzes, a link? Thanks, Susan
AnitaMcC
Hi Anita,Are there answer keys for the workbooks/study guides? Can you give information about the online quizzes, a link? Thanks, Susan For the World History there isn't a study guide or workbook that I know of. For this text... I think only the online quizes are available without a code of some sort. As for the link I will try to post it here... This is for the first volume. http://www.wadsworth.com/cgi-wadsworth/course_products_wp.pl?fid=M20b&product_isbn_issn=9780495050605&discipline_number=21&token= This is for the second volume http://www.wadsworth.com/cgi-wadsworth/course_products_wp.pl?fid=M20bI&flag=instructor&product_isbn_issn=9780495050124&disciplinenumber=21 Oh and the home page to the site for these companion sources are http://www.cengage.com/highered/ It offers other subjects too. The next link is for the 6th edition at publishers site and shows there is a workbook and other resources. I expect some of these could be used with the 5th edition. http://www.mcdougallittell.com/store/ProductCatalogController?cmd=Browse&subcmd=LoadDetail&ID=1007500000073331&imprint=hm&frontOrBack=F&division=M01&sortProductsBy=SEQ_TITLE&sortEntriesBy=SEQ_NAME#order I am so new to homeschooling that I really don't know much. But I hope what I can tell you helps you all. Anita
kate in seattle
I prefer the 5th to the 6th (don't know if there is a newer version than that). Nearly every chapter in the 6th edition has some new 'politically correct' sectioin on the status of women and homosexuals. Not that I am against much needed progress in fairness and equality, but the sections add little to the historical information and are so obvious in their 'add-on' -edness that i think they detract from the text. and, of course, the 5th is cheaper!
