Italian suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Have you used this? It is one of the ones I have been looking at. So far I have found (and I have no clue as to what I am looking at)....

Prego! Invitation to Italian by Lazzarino... it has 2004 and 2008 editions so far that I have found. The 2008 looks like it has most resources available.

Avanti! Beginning Italian by Aski... it has a 2007 and 2010 editions and the earlier edition seems to have the most resources. Maybe because the other one is too new?

Ciao! by Riga has a 6th edition that I have found ISBN for and it has a lot of resources.

Eccoci! Beginning Italian Only seems to have a student text, workbook, audio CD.

Oggi in Italian by Merlonghi as an 8th edition and has a lot of resources from the looks of it.

But I have no idea if I can get all the resources since we are hsing. I have no idea which one is good if any, and what is good for homestudy without a tutor or instructor. I will try to find someone to tutor Dd or speaks fluent Italian but I don't know if I can before she starts learning it.

So if anyone has used any of these Italian curriculums, please let me how it went for your student. I appreciate it very much!!

Thank you!!

Anita,

There is always Rosetta Stone and Tell Me More (auralog.com), both have Italian, both run close to on their own on the computer. That is what I would do w/o a tutor. My dd still wants to do Italian, I'm still trying for Spanish!

LOL good luck at changing her mind. If she is like my twins...stubborn!!!!!

I will check out these two programs. Also money is an issue so if it is expensive I can't go that route. We will be paying for CC classes.

But I thought I read on a thread that some colleges are not accepting Rosetta Stone for the high school foreign language admission requirement? I definitely don't want to spend the $$ and find out it won't be accepted.

Hi again Anita!

Tell Me More is less money than Rosetta Stone. It only runs on a PC and we are MAC. We did Rosetta Stone, it was Spanish 1 & 2 on the transcript, and the college didn't even ask what we used. They just do a placement test, and it doesn't matter what you took, if you can't do the placement test, you start at Beginning Spanish (which is what I wanted anyway!). Also, we did foreign language in 9th and 10th grade, there was also a requirement that if you took it two years prior, you had tp start over at Beginning (unless fluent). If you know colleges your twins might attend, you can run it by the admissions officer to ease your mind. We are in SC, and my son went to a state college in town, and it was really easy to get him in (the high SAT score didn't hurt...).

I'm looking at other options for dd, our Rosetta Stone is very old, and only runs on the dinosaur computer... stay tuned, and yes, she is pretty stubborn! I REALLY want her to do Spanish, it is everywhere, and I don't have the resources for her to get help, my son is taking it at college (he is still here in town) and my dh took it also. And she babysits for a bilingual family.

I would like to purchase the Prego! 2004 edition text, workbook, lab manual as I found it for a decent price (all three for $62). But from what I noticed... does not include any CD or DVD or audio items.

So I wonder if it would work if I purchased the 2004 edition in everything but also purchase the Audio CD (complete set) for the 2008 edition. Do you think this would work?

Also the 2004 text comes with a "Bind-in card".... what is this???
