Deborah
~ I'm looking for something that has a nice simple weekly plan like day one, day two etc.. (Writing Aids & even IEW are too broad for the boys and it has gotten the job done well, but I wanting something more structured for this fall) Classical Writing was a joy but it was above my head after Homer..I needed Cliff notes I think) Writing Tales was wonderful just need those next levels up! :D I really like a pick up and go week like: Mon: Plan / map Tues: outline start Wed: rough draft Thurs: polish Friday: due. ~ Main focus on: Narrative, persuasive, expository, compare/contrast, timed essay ~gives examples of the above from good literature ~has very through checklists for student and me (i have a TERRIBLE time editing..knowing exactly what I'm looking for) ~could use with multiple children ~ (incorporating grammar & Christian content would be lovely) ~ fairly independent..I can't be sitting with each one every day for their writing. :svengo: (...however, I do like 'weekly meetings' over subject Such as TOG discussions or Analytical Grammar Notes on Monday I was VERY tempted with Character Quality Language Arts samples.. the editing, copywork, grammar and step by step writing??? But I don't know if I'd call it college prep. Maybe it is..I just don't know about it. I also saw Write with the Best. But it looked like I'd have to run off sheets for each of them and it wasn't an even copy. (a paragraph to mark on one page and than a 1/4 of the next..with the next days printing would show up. still may consider that.. what'cha think??? :bigear: __________________
home2333
You might look at Write Shop. I think the assignments are on a two-week cycle however, and perhaps they would be too simple for your students. Doesn't TOG have a writing component? Grace
Michelle in AL
I love, love, love Write with the Best. We apply it to what we're reading also. I use it differently than what you're supposed to, but I do remember copying pages to be marked. The selections are long though and we did not mark the entire selection. A page would be fine IMO. amtmcm
Did you see this thread on Stack the Deck? It's very reasonably priced ($14.95?) so it would be easy to purchase a workbook for each of your children: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110058 We're using Write with the Best this year (it looks great, it's broken down into daily lessons and the classic writing examples are superb). I think we'll use Stack the Deck next year.
Sunshine State Sue
Write Shop has a number of the things you are looking for, but not all. You may read my review here.
Grace is Sufficient
Sounds like exactly what you're looking for... They have level 1 and 2. Level 1 works on writing paragraphs, level 2 on writing essays. I saw a noticeable improvement in my son's writing while doing Level 1. http://www.barrettsbookshelf.com/
