Their diplomas are actually from Thomas Edison, with which Verity has a cooperative agreement. Verity helps students with the planning, coordination, and study aspects of getting their distance learning degree. They were raised in an ATIA home, and I respect the choices their parents have made for their family. We're not ATIA and I do NOT want to get involved in a discussion about it. They both attended Verity (you can also do the program from home) and enjoyed their experience. My older niece attended it when it was in Flint, MI, in a rather awful neighborhood. Her younger sister went to Verity after it moved to Indiana. The older niece got her degree in communications; the younger's was in sociology. Due to family and other circumstances, neither is working in their degree field. I have asked them many questions about their study with Verity and would be happy to answer yours, if I can. I had NEVER heard of Verity until a few weeks ago when my hubby and I were at a church function and we met a young man who is the music director/teacher (not sure exactly what he said his title is) at Verity in Indiana. He is the son of what seem to be long time members of the church we are going to. Our church is a non-denominational Bible church. What is Verity Institute and is there some specific religion associated with it? Since I am here in IN, I would really like to hear about what some of you think about it --- I don't care if you have good or not-so-good things to say --- would just like to know more! You might want to start with their website: http://verity.iblp.org/ Basically, Verity helps students study for and pass various CLEPs, Dantes exams, Thomas Edison exams, etc., in order to get a degree from one of the "Big Three" regionally accredited distance learning institutions: Thomas Edison, Excelsior, and Charter Oak. They do this with a variety of strategies - test prep books, instantcert.com, actual in-person classes, and distance learning classes. The time expected to study for and pass each exam is about two weeks. Many folks have earned a degree from one of the Big Three on their own; Verity has created a college-type program with a B&M campus to do it, with a very conservative Christian atmosphere. My nieces enjoyed the fellowship, the Christian atmosphere, and the opportunity to earn a degree for less time and money than at a "regular" school. They didn't like the stress involved in studying for tests in the compressed time (they felt like they were always cramming), and the lack of grades (pass/fail only). Neither is sure that they feel their degree is "worth" what one from a B&M college would be, for a variety of reasons, some grass is greener-type reasons, and some valid. The niece who studied in Indiana had health issues from the mold in the buildings; hopefully they have fixed that problem. That's all I can think of right now.
