NYChristine
The dvd's from the Teaching Co. Anyone tried these? Are they very useful or mostly common sense stuff you already know? TIA.
Kareni
Here's an older thread that has links to other threads all of which concern this program. Lots of good stuff to read through. Regards, Kareni
Susan C.
We are watching them now, borrowed them. We are only going to watch first 8 video classes, the rest don't seem to apply, they are about traditional school, college, etc. My daughter likes his studying suggestions, we aren't finished yet, he is going to cover writing a research paper. NYChristine
Thanks very much. I tried to do a search for the topic, but got no where...........................maybe someone can give me clue how to search?
momof8
We actually bought them a while ago but haven't used them. I think that if the student gets any kind of good study tips then it was worth buying them.

Shelly in VA
My 8th grade dd watched these this year, and the suggestions/methods for active reading and note taking have been VERY helpful. She is actually using the note taking format on her own with many reading assignments when she hasn't specifically been told to take notes; that is a great endorsement right there! ;) I am glad I spent the $$ on this series, and I plan to have each of my kids watch it several times over several years to reinforce the ideas. Anything that can help them with study skills is worthwhile, imho. For me personally, I graduated at the top of my class in high school with virtually no study skills, and that was a real struggle for me throughout college, so I can't stress the importance of study skills enough. Hope that helps! Shelly
kpupg
:iagree: I just finished watching this course myself, in preparation for having my 9th-grader-on-Monday do it over the summer. I am so glad I bought it. I wish someone had cared enough to teach me these concepts before I went away to crash and burn at college before learning it myself by trial and error ... lots of error. I was a straight-A student in public high school, so everyone around me thought I was fine forever ... so not true. Just because study skills might be "common sense stuff you already know" doesn't mean that everyone knows them. I highly recommend this course, but wait until it's on sale to buy it :) Some of the content is institutional-school-specific, so it won't apply directly to home schooling, yet I think it will help when they get to college. Sunshine State Sue
Thanks very much. I tried to do a search for the topic, but got no where...........................maybe someone can give me clue how to search? I am the search queen. :D At the top, click on Search (just under your name and a bit to the left). In the pop-up, type super star student, then click on go. If you want to get fancy, you click on advanced search and play around. I do it all the time. HTH!
