susie in tx
Has anyone used the Cyber-Ed Biology or Chemistry? I received an email that indicated they might be getting this again and I'm interested. I cannot find a Biology course that I like for my 9th grader for the fall. I was thinking about putting this together with a public school bio textbook and calling that a complete course. OTOH, I think that labs are important and want to make sure that we are covering labs well. What do you think? Any real life experiences with this? Jenny in Atl
I think the company has gone belly-up. I got this message a few weeks ago when I was looking for info on an upper level science course. http://www.cybered.net/
Corraleno
I think the company has gone belly-up. I got this message a few weeks ago when I was looking for info on an upper level science course. http://www.cybered.net/ The CyberEd products are now sold by PLATO Science; Homeschool Buyers Coop will have them available again shortly. I haven't used the high school level courses, but I've used the middle school level ones. DS loved the Earth Science course, *hated* Physical Science (refused to finish it), and is "meh" about Life Science (even though biology is his favorite subject). The format does get kind of repetitive. On the other hand, it's GREAT for mom. :D Jackie
Heather in AL
My kids have used the Phys Sci and Chem. My son loved the Phys Sci, but my daughter felt it was so-so (I have yet to find a science program that she rates higher than so-so). My son, who is older (and loves science), then moved on to the Chemistry. He said it was pretty good, but that the lessons were long. So long, in fact, that he started zoning out, so he just stopped them after a certain time and went back to finish later or the next day. Would I buy them again? Yep. As for where to buy, Jackie has it right. Homeschool Buyer's Co-op will be offering them again. Oh, my friend has used the Life Science, and said that was a hit with her three kids (ages 6-12). Again, I agree with Jackie in that the format gets boring, but I LOVED it!! :tongue_smilie: HTH!

I'll look forward to seeing the offers again through the coop.
Virginia in Tx
We used it this year as a supplement to Holt Visualizing Matter. I really like the Cyber-Ed products - this is the second one we have used. Most of the material in the book was covered in the Cyber-Ed product although the book had harder calculation problems. I don't think the Cyber-Ed product has enough quanitative chemistry problems to be a stand-alone curriculum but it is a good add-on to a base curriculum. I would definitely recommend it especially if you buy it through Homeschool Buyer's Group Discount website -

He finished the Phys Sci faster than my dd, so I told him to just move on for the exposure. He also watched The Teaching Company's Chemistry DVDs, so he has had a basic introduction to Chemistry. He's taking Biology next year, then moving on to a full year of Chemistry in 10th grade. I just wanted to agree with Virginia that the courses are not enough to stand alone, but they provide good 'lectures' and hands on stuff. :001_smile:
