Phyllis in Canada
Ds needs to read Macbeth and Richard III this coming year. Can anyone recommend a good film version to watch ahead of time? Thanks.
yslek
Not exactly a film version, but here's a cartoon version: Macbeth part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC9G_CZVAL8 Macbeth part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZQOyiHDptU&feature=related Macbeth part 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8riYRDFp7A&feature=related King Richard III part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6N4e8terH4 King Richard III part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8X8Zg3HZf8M&feature=related King Richard III part 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovb4jGz7eEk&feature=related These are abridged (less than half and hour long per play), but are a nice intro to the basic plot. I found these just the other day (on this site: http://www.squidoo.com/shakespeare-animated-tales#module20376682) so we haven't watched most of these yet. Beth in SW WA
Macbeth w/ Ian McKellen & Judy Dench was torture for my kids. BUT, seeing these 2 younger British actors was a treat for me. If you can get past the lame set and one camera, it does a fine job.
Carol in Cal.
...that parallels Macbeth. It's called "Jennifer, Hecate, Macbeth, William McKinley, and Me, Elizabeth." I have used that to introduce the basic plot line of Macbeth to older kids.
Moira in MA
You'll need to preview these yourself but the BBC did modern retellings of 4 of the plays in 2005 under the title ShakespeaRE-Told. Macbeth takes place in a restaurant kitchen. ~Moira
