Lux Et Veritas Academy
Do colleges/highschools consider ASL as a language and is it comparable to the foreign languages such as spanish? Is it looked down upon vs. something like Chinese?
mims
Very much depends on the college. Most seem to be accepting it now but it seems to be a fairly recent transition. I don't really know if it is looked down upon at all.
Kareni
Many, many colleges do accept ASL as a foreign language; however, there are exceptions. One parent posted on the Yahoo group hs2coll last year (post #14344) that Lewis and Clark College in Oregon did not accept ASL. Rosie_0801
*shakes head* They should be accepting it as a native language, not a foreign one! It amazes me how slow the establishment can be. A language is a language, after all. Rosie
