DS is coming home this evening!

I thought I would need to help him move back home but then remembered he had taken the Tahoe so he had plenty of room for his stuff. He's had a rough week with finals. He went into all except Physics with an A (he has no idea what his physics grade was), but was surprised that the physics final was so easy, the calculus final (calculus is his best subject) was so hard and long, and the blow-off 2 credit beginning petroleum engineering class final was horrible! We know he got an A in Chemistry because it was multiple choice and the answers are already posted, but he has no clue as to how the other courses will be graded.

One interesting note is that his Pet. Eng. professor is Nigerian and, although he does quite well with English, he does use terms incorrectly at times. This caused a problem on the final. For example, he will often say something like, "I will borrow you $15" rather than "I will loan you $15". There was confusion about how he intended the term "bimonthly" to be interpreted on the final exam. Oh, well, ds is learning flexibility.

We wanted to give him a nice "welcome home" gift so the boys thought he needed a new XBox 360 game (ha! I think they had selfish motives) and we got him some nice cologne from Bath and Body. And I cleaned his room:D (which was really bad). I had been leaving the door closed :tongue_smilie:

Anyways, I'm surprised that I'm as excited as I am...:001_huh:

Anyone else with kiddos heading home this weekend?

Enjoy having your son home! Will he be home for the entire summer?

I hope that the finals will all have proved to go well.

Does he already know his schedule of classes for the fall?

After he's been home for a while, perhaps you can ask if he has any advice for prospective first year college students ....

Regards,

Kareni

Mine was only home for 19 days. He just went back to Tokyo for the summer semester.

Flexibility is a great thing to learn.

I think he will appreciate the clean room. My ds enjoyed having his own bed back after a semester of sleeping in a twin.

Glad his finals went mostly well. Its nice to be able to see them again. Enjoy.

Does anybody else have kids who are gone for the summer?

Ds is coming home two weeks from tomorrow.

Dd is coming home two weeks from Monday. But who's counting the days? :D

The bummer is that they are both leaving on June 7th for the summer. I love their summer plans....but I will miss them. I intend to enjoy those 6 / 8 days with them!

My ds was home this semester so I have gotten used to having him around. He is leaving in 3 weeks to work at a summer camp. When he gets home he will have around 2 to 3 days before going away to school.

with ds. He probably won't be home for the whole summer ever again...sniff. I'm so happy for him and am looking forward also to the changes in my life....but I know there's gonna be a big hard adjustment to that hole....

I am resolved to treasure and make the most of the time.

Yep, enjoy the summer. Nobody warned me that college kids don't spend summers at home. :(

Enjoy those returning kids while you have them, and feed them well.

Did anybody else's kid come home and start spontaneously doing the dishes without being asked? Mine did, and it was weird. He said that they don't have dishwashers at his dorm (or a meal plan) so he not only cooked for himself for a semester but had to immediately clean up after himself. Of course he did pack his dirty laundry and move it across Tokyo, and tried to convince me that wearing dirty clothes is more enviromentally friendly than washing them.

He actually finished his finals last week and came home Friday afternoon. He was home Saturday & Sunday, then went to visit friends Monday. He was home again Tuesday, then left Wednesday AM to travel with his sweetheart & her mom & grandad to Florida, where she had wrist surgery on Thursday. He will be traveling back home this evening. Although he's been out of school for over a week, he's only been home a couple of days. He plans to work part-time this summer and do some traveling to visit friends. I look forward to having him here at least some of the time!

:001_unsure: He is very likely going to participate in a program his school offers to freshmen in research that runs for 10 weeks of the summer. The great thing about it is they get paid a great stipend ($4500 this year) and the school pays their room and board too. So that will go a long ways toward paying off his first loans. And the head of his department said it really helps the kids land better first co-ops as well because they have some research under their belts. So, I'm already trying to brace myself for it.

They really are gone in the blink of an eye, just like a bird leaving that nest....

:grouphug: to all of you and I'll squeeze in there myself in preparation.

By the way your comment on the laundry was really funny

My ds just finished his last final exam this morning and is finally flying home late tonight - yay!! My dd spent the morning cleaning out her office and art studio, aka her brother's bedroom:001_smile:.

He will only be here for ten days, then he's off to a summer internship for twelve weeks in California.

My sadness in seeing so little of him is mixed with the joy of knowing he's doing well. But even so...

Hope everyone else is enjoying their college kids' visits, and :grouphug: to everyone else who misses their kids when they're gone. The time goes WAY too fast!

That's so true. This is probably the last summer I'll have my oldest home during break. He'll be doing internships after this. But I am enjoying him...all the other boys were otherwise occupied away from home this afternoon, so ds#1 and I worked on making a brick path through the raised bed gardens. We talked about lots of things...it was so pleasant.

He'll be starting summer school (engineering physics 2) in a couple of weeks so I won't see as much of him. His brothers are thrilled...it's a little like a honeymoon around here...lots of horseplay, video games, general harassment and goofiness :-)
