THE LEARNABLES
The Learnables is a great program to start out with as it is suitable for Grade 2 thru Adult. This is the program my dc started French with, when Ds was 7 and Dd was 4. Ds did just fine with it, including doing the Basic Structures book; Dd mostly listened in and absorbed. :-) You should start with Level 1, which is now completely computer-based. You can find it for a discount here: http://www.rainbowresource.com/proddtl.php?id=027240
You can then follow Level 1 up with my Level 2 and 3 sets, which are in very good condition and less than half the price of new!

The Learnables French Level 2, Good Cond -- $70 ppd (Retail $150)
Includes:
-- Learnables Book 2 and accompanying 4 Audio CD’s
-- Basic Structures Book 2 and 7 Audio CD’s
See the set here: http://www.learnables.com/languages/french/french-level-2/
(Note: my set does not include the Grammar Enhancement book shown on the page above, as my dc were a little young for that portion of the program.)

The Learnables French Level 3, Like new -- $65 ppd (Retail $140)
Includes:
-- Learnables Book 3 and accompanying 3 Audio CD’s
-- Basic Structures Book 3 and accompanying 5 Audio CD’s
See the set here: http://www.learnables.com/languages/french/french-3/

THE EASY FRENCH
A nice, accessible program for elementary (with parental guidance) and up (can be self-teaching for older students.) Start with Level I, which can be found for a discount here: http://www.rainbowresource.com/product/sku/003100
Then you can follow it up with my Level II, below:

The Easy French, Level II (Le Francais Facile, Niveau II), Marie Filion, Great Commission Languages, Good cond -- $40 ppd (Retail: $140)
This program is a nice follow-on to The Easy French Level I--or another 1st year French program--and can be done as early as middle school. Ds used it in 8th grade. My copy is the original, complete level II with 2 Audio CDs. This book has now been discontinued and replaced with Level II-A and Level II-B, which combined retail for $170. You can see a picture of the book here: http://www.theeasyfrench.com/purchase/index.html

BOB JONES UNIVERSITY PRESS
French 1 for Christian Schools, 1st Edition, BJU Press, excellent cond -- $85 ppd (Retail: $278)
This is a very good middle to high school textbook course for first year French. It is designed for schools, but we were able to adapt it for home use. My dd used it in 7th grade. It is “teacher”-directed, so if you as the parent do not know French, it would be best to use this program either with the help of a French tutor, or as a supplement alongside a more self-teaching course (the Teacher editions of the text and activities manual do contain all the answers to the exercises.)
Includes:
-- Teacher edition
-- Student text
-- Set of 9 audio-cassette tapes
-- Student Activities Manual Teacher Ed.
-- Student Activities Manual (unmarked; just a little worn from photocopying)

More French 1 items, such as tests and DVD supplement are available here: http://www.bjupresshomeschool.com/store/product_French-1-Subject-Kit____2236390
It’s unlikely that the 2nd edition tests differ dramatically from the 1st edition. Pictures of the first edition text and teacher manual can be seen here: http://www.amazon.com/FRENCH-Christian-Schools-Bruce-Byers/dp/089084559X/ref=pd_sim_sbs_14_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0MYAAE02F9S5W71T3T0Y

French 2 for Christian Schools, (current edition), Bob Jones University Press, Like new -- $95 ppd (Retail: $279)
This is a very good middle to high school textbook course for second and third year French. It is designed for schools, but we were able to adapt it for home use. My ds used it in 9th grade. It is “teacher”-directed, so if you as the parent do not know French, it would be best to use this program either with the help of a French tutor, or as a supplement alongside a more self-teaching course (the Teacher editions of the text and activities manual do contain all the answers to the exercises.)
Includes:
-- Teacher Ed.
-- Student Text
-- Set of 6 audio-cassette tapes
-- Tests (unused)*
-- DVD Supplement

*More French 2 items, including the Test answer key, the Student Activities Manual and its corresponding Teacher Ed. are available here: http://www.bjupresshomeschool.com/store/product_French-2-Subject-Kit____12724
